Requirements for Metaloggers

The MooseFS Metalogger is a lightweight component that collects metadata from the MooseFS Master Server. Because of its limited role, its hardware requirements are modest. It requires roughly the same amount of disk space as the Master Server and must run on a POSIX-compliant operating system.

However, if you plan to promote the Metalogger to act as a Master Server in the event of a Master failure, the machine should be equipped with at least the same amount of RAM as the primary Master Server and a CPU of the same type or one with comparable performance. This ensures it can handle the full metadata workload without any drop in performance or stability.

To further improve reliability - especially if the Metalogger may be promoted to Master - it is recommended to use RAID (e.g., RAID 1 or RAID 10) for its storage. This helps protect the metadata from disk failures and increases system resilience in critical situations.
